BUTLER COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER FACADE RENOVATIONS

Butler, PA

The Butler County Government Center was experiencing deterioration and staining of its exterior. The steel reinforcing of original concrete panels was rusting and bleeding through to the surface. The challenge was to correct the problem and make improvements while keeping the Government Center in operations.  The project involved covering the original panels by installing   brick on the bottom section and metal insulated panels with ribbon integrated windows over the upper section. The project also involved replacing of brick planters and sidewalks around the building with improved accessibility.  Improvements were made to make the front deck making it more functional, spacious, open and inviting. Lighted bollards were added to improve the safety and exterior image.

Ashlar AE in conjunction with Gray Consulting provided a comprehensive design package to improve the exterior image and function of Government Center. One goal of the design was to create a recognizable, inviting and grander façade by providing brick and metal panels with integrated window design. The windows were designed to go over the existing windows for later removal. This innovative design enabled the construction to occur while the interior and the activities of the county government proceeded with minimal interruption. Final product was a much-improved building with higher energy efficiency, better accessibility, and a more majestic entrance to the Government Center.
